OBD Vault — Terms of Service

Effective September 4, 2026

1. Purpose of the Service

OBD Vault is a read-mostly vehicle diagnostic record-keeping and synchronization tool. It enables vehicle owners to read standard OBD-II telemetry from supported Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) ELM327 adapters, archive diagnostic history, and optionally connect AI assistants via the Model Context Protocol (MCP).

2. Safety & Non-Mechanical Disclaimer

CRITICAL SAFETY NOTICE:

OBD Vault is NOT a licensed mechanic, emergency assistance system, vehicle safety system, or certified emissions inspection station.

  • Never operate or interact with the mobile application while driving. Park safely before scanning.
  • Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) indicate reported sensor conditions and do not guarantee root-cause fault identification or vehicle roadworthiness.
  • Clearing diagnostic codes does not fix mechanical or electrical faults. It may extinguish warning lamps while underlying hazards remain unresolved.
  • You are solely responsible for ensuring the physical safety and roadworthiness of your vehicle.

3. Acceptable Use & Limitations

  • You agree to use OBD Vault only with vehicles you own or are legally authorized to inspect.
  • You agree not to reverse engineer, attempt denial-of-service attacks, or bypass rate limits on the API or MCP endpoints.
  • Arbitrary ECU control commands, ECU reprogramming, tuning, and active actuation tests are intentionally disabled and unsupported.

4. Subscriptions & Cloud Vault

Core scanner and local recording functionality is provided free of charge. Optional Cloud Vault synchronization and AI MCP connector access are provided through subscription or authorized beta invite codes. Subscriptions are billed and managed through Apple App Store or Google Play.

5. Limitation of Liability & Governing Law

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, OBD Vault is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. In no event shall the author or publisher be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from vehicle operation, adapter malfunction, or data inaccuracies. These terms are governed by the laws of the European Union.
